My name is Zoltan Nagy I’m a guy in his late thirtees. I was born in Hungary but I live in the United Kingdom for 4 years. I really like to follow the new technolgies and if I can afford I like to own them, as well. I spend a lot of time with my computers, sometimes for work sometimes just to chill out with some video game. I build my desktop PC myself I love to do it and I try to keep up with the new hardware parts. The web is another area what is really attractive for me, I’ve built my first website a bit more than 10 years ago.
This is my very first blog post, so I thought I have to introduce myself a little, who I am, where I came from and what I want with this website, with this blog.
A little bit of history
I remember when I was a child I really liked to play with electronic stuff, for example, my grandfather’s old radios I used to dissassambled it completely with the plan I’m ging to repair it. The repair part never happened, of course. I enjoyed to set up the tv, radio etc. So my parents decided to send me to a school where I can learn something like that.
“ I was around 10 when I’ve met the first computer in my life at school. It was a Commodore 64. ”
I was around 10 when I’ve met the first computer in my life at school. It was a Commodore 64. We’ve got “computer science” facultation every week. It was mostly playing but every week in the first half an hour our teacher tried to teach us some basic programming I think it was Turbo Pascal it wasn’t fun at all. I remember I just couldn’t wait to finish with it and start some game from the cassette. (if you can remember the compact cassettes were the data storage in those times)
In the secondary scool I learned electronics, the basics of it, designing, fault-finding, and some programmig also which was some basic C++ I think. I don’t even remember a line unfortunately.
Later on I worked mostly in electronics. Debugging, repairing, manufacturing but computers were always the part of my life somehow.
In 2007, I was working to a financial company, I sold their products, insurances, bank products. This time was the first time when I was thinking about to have a website, because I thought that would be much easier to explain and sell these products online. So, I started to read about how I could make one.
It wasn’t too hard to see how easy to handle data with PHP and a MySQL databse. A couple of months and a lot of sleepless nights later my financial website changed a lot, with the PHP backend what I hacked together I could handle loads of pages, I published a couple of articles every day in relevant topics, I had a login system and later on users could fill out a couple of forms and apply for several financial services, for example, they could apply for private pension funds which was unique in Hungary at that time. It made me some money every month and later on I had some requests from smaller companies who wanted to own similar webpages. So it was an extra income next to my full time job.
But nothing good lasts too long… my small country started to feel the financial crisis and the sector where I worked was the worse. So, after a few months waititng without decent wages I had to change and get back to the electronics industry. It wasn’t bad but I didn’t have that much time to make websites, so it became to a hobby.
A couple of years later I got some projects to make, but I didn’t have too much time for them next to my full-time job, so I decided to learn some CMS system to speed up the development process of the small websites. I choose Joomla and Wordpress, but I worked more in Joomla. I started to understood how the backend of Joomla works and I pretty liked to work with it.

In 2013 the company where I worked in full-time closed up it’s mobile department, so I lost my job and I had to look for something else. I got some small website projects mostly from my friends, but they were not enough to pay my monthly bills. After a couple of months struggling with jobs what I didn’t really liked I read about a mobile phone repair company which had a site in the United Kingdom, and they were hireing in Hungary. I applied for the job and went to the interview and one month later I moved to the UK and started to work with them. The funny part is this company closed up it’s site where I was working eight months later, as well. But I found another job in similar area and I work there since that time until this article has been written.
In the first three years I was busy to re-build my life here in a new counrty, so I didn’t have time to care about any coding but at 2017 I realised something is missing from my life and it was coding. I tried to free up some time bought a couple of domains and I tried to make to fill them up with some content. It was unbeliveable how many things I forgot in 3 years and how much the trends changed. But I started to learn the new things and I keep learning them at this moment as well. This small blog is part of my learning I coded it from scratch, OK, I know it is not a big thing but probably it is for me and it gives me a better understandig of a couple of things, much different from install a CMS in 5 minutes and start to write. You should try as well! :)
My plan is to share my experiences with code what I learn or what I work with in my free time… that’s my plan… and we will see what happens.
Yeah, I know it is probably not the best name for a serious web appearance it is not really formal but it has a small story behind it.
When I was a kid in the 90’s the graffiti started to get to Hungary and cover more and more walls. I was one of the first ones who started to do it with my friends. I don’t really know which part was what cought me, probably to create something or the adrenalin when you know they can catch you anytime or both. So my tag was Zash and after a couple of years hundreds of people called me on this name it sticked on me. In 2000 I registered my first email address with yahoo.com and the zash was taken, so I picked the zashboy and later on I started to use it everywhere it became my online nickname in games, email accounts, etc.
That’s the story of the domain name and anyway the zoltannagy.com was taken, as well.
